Starting in the Fall of 2023, BWSA started a program for the 2016 birth year players, who were moving from the U7 program to the U8 program. At the U8 level, players have the option to start signing up for travel soccer, but with the way that travel soccer works, these players would be "playing up" in a combined U9/U10 division. We did not want to rush the development of these players and started the
Travel Prep Academy
.
The Travel Prep Academy is a group collaboration between the U8 recreational coaches to offer an additional night of practice to any U8 player who may wish to play travel soccer in the future. The training focuses on the differences between U8 and U10 soccer. The scrimmages are 7V7, not 5V5, and played on the U10 size field with the larger goals. The players get used to the size 4 ball, and new field positions are introduced.
BWSA does not charge an additional fee for the registration, and U8 players have the option to join the training sessions throughout the season, but they do need to register so that they can be added to the "Travel Prep Academy Team" on Game Changer so that they receive the communications from the coach.
If a player wishes to start attending the sessions during a season then they need to email
[email protected]
and ask the Travel Prep Academy head coach to add them to the Game Changer Team.
